Battle Winslow is pleased to announce that former partner Joseph N. Callaway has been appointed to the United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of North Carolina.  We congratulate Judge Callaway on his appointment and wish him the best.  The official announcement follows here:

The United States District Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina announce that the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit has appointed Joseph N. Callaway as the new United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.  Judge Callaway replaces the late Honorable Randy D. Doub, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge.  He will be stationed in Greenville, North Carolina.  Judge Callaway took the oath of office on January 4, 2016 in a Special Ceremonial Session of Court conducted at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the historic Century Station Building on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh.  A formal investiture is scheduled for March 18, 2016.

Judge Callaway attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1980 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1983.  Prior to his appointment, Judge Callaway worked as an attorney (partner) with the law firm of Battle, Winslow, Scott & Wiley, P.A., in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where he headed the bankruptcy and creditor rights practice.

Judge Callaway spent his thirty-two year legal career practicing in the areas of bankruptcy law and creditor rights.  He is certified as both a Business and Consumer Bankruptcy Law Specialist by the North Carolina State Bar and by the American Board of Certification.  He served in numerous offices and capacities for the Bankruptcy Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.  He also served as a Chapter 7 trustee for twenty-four years in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Judge Callaway and wife, Karen, reside in Rocky Mount, NC.
