October 24, 2013

The North Carolina State Bar awarded Battle Winslow attorney Samuel S. Woodley, Jr. with the John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award at the Annual Bar Meeting.  The award is one of the highest honors given by the State Bar, and nominees are evaluated based on a number of criteria, including cultivating knowledge of the law beyond its use for clients and employing that knowledge in reform of the law.

Woodley, a native of Tyrrell County, joined Battle Winslow after graduating from the University of North Carolina School of Law with honors in 1963 and serving as a JAG officer in the United States Air Force.  While at Battle Winslow, Woodley focused his practice on litigation, and he has served as a member of the North Carolina Board of Law Examiners since 2004.  In addition to the Distinguished Service Award, Woodley was also honored for being licensed to practice law in North Carolina for 50 years.
