Katherine was born and raised in Rocky Mount; however, she spent the first portion of her legal career practicing in High Point with Schoch and Schoch attorneys at law. She joined Battle Winslow in 2000 and became its first female partner in 2003. Katherine’s area of practice is family law, including divorce, child custody, child support, postseparation support, alimony, and equitable distribution. Katherine is also a North Carolina certified Family Financial Mediator, mediating cases in the same areas of child custody, child support, alimony and postseparation support and equitable distribution. She became active with the North Carolina Bar Association in 2004, having served as secretary of the NCBA Family Law Section for multiple years, and then as Chair of the NCBA Family Law Section for the 2014-2015 bar year. She served as a member of the NC Bar Association Board of Governors and NC Bar Foundation Board of Governors from 2017-2020. She was awarded the North Carolina Bar Association Citizen Lawyer Award in 2017. Along with being active in the legal community, Katherine is active in the Rocky Mount/Nash County community. She is a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount where she has served as a Deacon and an Elder; she is a current member and former Chair of the Board of Trustees of Nash Community College; a current board member of the Rocky Mount Academy Board of Trustees; a prior board member of Meals on Wheels; a prior member of Junior Guild of Rocky Mount, and former Vice Chair of Public Policy of the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce.
When Katherine is not at work at the office or in the community, she enjoys running, reading a good book, and most importantly, spending time with her husband and her twin children.
